We found Hope in the Flicker

"Because you are needed. You are here for a reason. No one else in the world has a light like yours!"
Inspired by the book "Flicker of Hope" by Julia Cook, a wonderful display appeared in our school at Stępińska Street to be admired. We are happy to contribute to the Festival of Hope initiated by IB by creating our own Wall of Hope.
Each candle was created by our PYP student and is one-of-a-kind. It is there to remember either that we all have times when we need to borrow a little hope from someone else or that we can be hope builders for others. Grade 0-4 students were introduced to a hopeful story “Flicker of Hope”. The candles were the culmination of the task. It was preceded by a classroom discussion about the book and how to get through difficult times.
The effect seen in the photo below is only observed after the sunset and when the lights go off…
We know the lessons around the book were of great importance to children, allowing them to open up and share their feelings. Here is a relation from the perspective of 2a homeroom teacher, Monika Górska:
“The students of Class 2a were extremely curious about both the topic of the class and the book itself. "Flicker of Hope" provided many interesting reflections. Among other things, the students admitted that more than once they felt like the heroine of the book, that is, resigned and unnecessary, but it was hope that allowed them to deal with these negative thoughts. In my opinion, such classes were very necessary and fruitful at the same time. They allowed children to look inside themselves and name their feelings and emotions, which, as we know, is not easy.”
Let’s look at HOPE as a window for a better tomorrow. We are sure the lessons around the book have strengthened kids to build resilience and improve well-being.
