New coach for Poland's national football team
For quite a long time there were some rumours regarding the recruitment of the new head coach of the Polish national football team. After Michniewicz (a previous head coach) had left PZPN (Polish Football Association) many social newspapers and social media accounts were trying to predict who would our future selector be. Many people said that there were top 3 candidates for this position: Vladimir Petkovic - the previous coach of Switzerland's national team and the founder of 2 European clubs, Paulo Bento – the head coach of debutant South Korea during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, and finally Fernando Santos – a former Portuguese coach who had been on his position for 8 full years straight. After weeks of speculations, we finally received an answer when Santos was spotted by paparazzi while he was leaving PZPN headquarters. The CEO of the Polish football association claimed that the new coach was the best option for such a strong football team. He also said that with previous selectors, the Polish national team didn’t reach their full potential and, with Santos in charge, these statements would be no more valid.
Poles during the Australian open 2023
On January 23 we could watch Polish Representatives during the Australian Open. Unlike other tennis tournaments we have seen so far, the extraordinary performance of Karolina Linette was much better than Iga Swiatek’s. With both of these strong players, the two Polish women climbed up the ladder. Linette was unfortunately defeated in the semi-finals by Alyna Sabalenka, a Belarusian, but not officially representing her homeland. Swiatek had been defeated a little bit earlier in the 16th round by Yelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan. Although she lost a match, Iga put up a fight with the results of 2 sets of 6:4. In the men's Australian Open, we saw another great performance by Hubert Hurkacz, who for the first time in his career went to round-of-8 in this tournament. Unfortunately, he lost against Sebastian Korda, a U.S. representative with 10:7 gems.
