Our school patron - who was he?

Jean Monnet was a war hero, a political genius, and most importantly, an inventor that we should thank for.

Monnet had been involved in businesses from a young age, being from the town of Cognac where his parents had their own cognac business. He used to help them and by that he learned business management. He then continued on with his education and at the age of 16 he went to study in London where he studied Business studies and English literature.

Later on in his life, at the time of war, he unfortunately was unable to fight on the front, but he fought to make soldiers win the war. Monnet helped to ease the problem of equipment and food transportation to the Allies which was a great success and made them win WWI. Thanks to this great act, Monnet became Deputy Secretary General in the League of Nations in 1919. Unfortunately, the League was unsuccessful and so 4 years later he resigned from his position. Had he been placed higher, the League would have been more effective because it could have had better ways of punishing the countries that broke rules.

Many years later, during the Second World War he was situated in London and had a great impact on the way the war would end. Monnet was sent by the British government to speak with the American president. He later on became his assistant and they came up with a victory plan that guaranteed a successful end of WWII.

Overall, I think that he is a perfect person to represent our school as he is a hero that requires all the honors. He didn’t fight with guns, but with his brain. I think that this really tells the students in our school to be like Jean Monnet and to appear in the world as a person with great intelligence and knowledge.
