Have you ever wondered what today's world would look like without electricity? How far behind would medicine be without X-ray technology? Nikola Tesla, is a genius inventor responsible for many technologies, for example, alternating-current electricity. Nikola is one of the most important inventors in the history of technological advancement development. Because of that, he became a legend, a symbol of many aspects of the world. Thus, it is a pure reason why his name should be treated with respect. In this essay, I will introduce you to a spectacular and extraordinary story- Nikola Tesla's life.
On July 10, 1856, Nikola was born in Croatia. He spent his childhood years and went through his education in Europe. He studied at three universities in Germany, Austria and Czechia and with collected knowledge, an idea of an induction motor arose. With his first invention idea, he moved to Budapest and started to work at Central Telephone Exchange. Unfortunately, he did not get as much attention as he wanted, which resulted in him emigrating to America at 28.
After moving to the United States, Nikola founded the Tesla Electric Light Company in 1885. He started getting attention as a potentially genius source of breakthrough. Those expectations came true when Tesla successfully enhanced electric arc lighting. This huge success resulted in the downfall in his personal life. He was forced out of his own company, leaving him devastated. He had to work in hard labour for over two years to survive. After his company received additional funding, he was brought back as a consultant.
Throughout his career, he designed and developed ideas for dozens of inventions, a crucial base of technology advancement we know today. For example, Nikola Tesla is the founder of (AC) electric machinery, a basis for X-ray technology, rotating the magnetic field and remote control used for producing the TV remote in your living room. These particular examples had their patents sold to gain humongous funding for Teslas company.
The most famous and principal invention of the Croatian genius, the (AC) technology, became the permanent system of power of the 20th century. This innovation has remained to this day. In 1895 Nikola tesla peaked his career by developing the first power plant in the United States at Niagara Falls.
On November 6, 1915, journalists created a rumour of a Nobel prize for Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. Biographers say that neither Thomas nor Nikola got the award because of the competition hostility between them after they split ways from their cooperation a couple of years before. Additionally, they stated that neither of them considered sharing the award.
During the closure of his free energy project, Nikola suffered from a nervous breakdown. It was a result of stress from a lack of ideas and funding. At that time, his inventions became impractical and outlandish. Not long after, he died from coronary thrombosis on January 7, 1943, at 86. After living in NYC for nearly 60 years, he died poor and reclusive.
Although the end of his life may seem miserable, his legacy lives through his marvellous inventions. The (AC) technology and Tesla coil are still today. Patents bought by the first investors were run through the generations until 2008. His technology is a basis for a massive part of machinery construction. The street he died on was named after him "Nikola Tesla Corner". It's located at the intersection of 40th street and 6th Avenue. This re-confirms that Nikola Tesla's legacy will live forever. I hope that through this story, you will realize how important, and extraordinary life Nikola Tesla had.
