The space around us is extremely important. It affects how we humans feel and behave. Wherever we are, we often pay attention to the appearance of a room in a house, a shopping mall or a park. We may not even notice that it has an effect on us in some ways, but it does. When we are in a dark and gloomy place, we automatically become sadder and quieter, but when we are in a colorful, energetic space, we become happier.
I have come to this conclusion based on my own experiences. In my house, the living room is decorated in gray and black colors and it feels a bit depressing, but it is still cosy. However, my wonderful bedroom is colorful. On every wall, there are hanging various drawings, photos of me with my friends and people important to me, and paintings that I have painted. My room makes me smile every time I come in there and feel really at home. It's extremely homely, and I love being there.
I also feel very good at school because there are a lot of plants everywhere, comfortable couches, and decorations. Regardless of some boring lessons, I still feel good there.
Sometimes it seems to me that something is missing in our school, and thinking about it now, I have come to the conclusion that there could be decorations in classrooms. The walls are simply painted in two colors, and it would be amazing if students could add decorations designed by them and then the class would be co-created by the students and would include a part of each of us.
Not only the interior affect us, but also the weather outside. In winter, it is snowy, dark, cold and gray. Everything just seems to be sad, and all the people that I pass on the street are depressed and a bit angry.
Do you also feel so down during winter? It feels like all days blend together. When you go to school, it’s still dark outside and when you come back it’s dark already. After this terrible period of the year, the spring comes. As it’s starting to get warmer and sunnier, we automatically have more energy to spend time outside and we are getting more productive. Finally, summer, the best part of the year, starts. During holidays, I visit various places. At that time I feel extremely happy, especially while being somewhere with my family and friends.
Having said all of this, I can sum up that everything that surrounds us: people, weather, nature and the interior of rooms that we spend time in, affects our mood and well-being. Although there are things that we change or control, like the weather, we may and should arrange the space around us for our own sake.
